Granite Slabs Vs Granite Tiles

You're redecorating and have finally narrowed down your choice to granite. Now you must decide on a slab or tiles.
Why Does It Matter?
Countertops are often heavily used items in your house. Making sure your granite countertop can handle your busy family will ensure its life and luster. Although the basis for both slab and tile is granite, installation, cleaning and upkeep, and price can be the factors that alter your decision.
Installation
It may seem that tile and slab countertops are installed the same, but one requires additional labor time and supply materials. Tiles are smaller and must be laid together aligning geometrically and held together with the use of grout. Since a slab is one continuous piece, it demands less time, precision and supplies to install. Without the need to apply several pieces in a particular pattern, the design is guaranteed to be flawless.
Cleaning and Upkeep
Once again, the extra grout used when installing granite tiles creates more problems than a granite slab. The spaces between the tiles of granite collect and retain dirt and bacteria. Scrubbing these areas too often can wear away the finish causing the need to recoat with sealants. A single slab countertop has fewer crevices to attract micro-organisms needs resealing less frequently.
While utilizing your countertop and scrubbing the bacteria from the grout can sometimes cause tiles to chip. With more edges per tile than a single slab, the areas that can be destroyed from every day wear are increased. Rarely can one tile be replaced at a time, so the countertop would need to be replaced as a whole.
A constant surface with no grooves to catch the rag or solvent not only makes it easier to clean but also makes reapplying sealant uncomplicated and effortless. Regardless of whether you decide on granite tiles or granite slab for your countertop, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for care and maintenance to ensure your granite remains functional and appealing.
